Updates from the 4th week of school

  1. What did you do this past week?

This past week was slightly less eventful than the past few weeks. I tried making a penne alla vodka recipe, and it actually turned out pretty well! It’s relatively easy to make and it tastes really good.

2. What’s in your way?

I have an Algo exam this week (and I have trouble paying attention in the class) so I’m a little worried about that. Other than that, nothing much!

3. What will you do next week?

I’m hoping it’s going to snow when it gets cold in the couple days, but if not that’s okay. I finally get to wear my winter clothes since it hasn’t been that cold. Other than that, I’m hoping to start and make some progress on the next project for this class.

4. If you read it, what did you think of the Pair Programming?

The article was about what I expected it to be, because I did a lot of pair programming for OS last semester. I personally still prefer coding by myself, but I don’t deny that there are benefits to having someone to work with and switching off driving/observing.

5. What was your experience of types? (this question will vary, week to week)

From my previous experience of Java with data structures and type parameters I feel pretty comfortable with types. Before this class though I haven’t really done anything with dicts, so that was pretty new to me.

6. What made you happy this week?

This past Friday was Chinese/Lunar New year! I’m pretty used to spending it with my family at home so spending it without them was a little bittersweet. My roommates and I got some local Chinese food that was really good, and after writing this blog I’m going to go make some homemade dumplings with a friend.

7. What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

Use VSCode if you need to do something in Latex. There are plugins that let you choose math symbols from a list so it makes the process a lot quicker and easier.
